Robocop coming to Dynamite

Alex Murphy and a crime-riddled Detroit are making their way back to comics, as Robocop will return later this year in new projects from Dynamite Entertainment.

Looks like another title will be added to my ever growing read list :)

Alice in Wonderland from Dynamite

Dynamite announced that they are going to release a comics adaptation of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. I'll contemplate getting it when the solicitation will be released.

Star Trek news from John Byrne

In his forum Me. Byrne posted the following about a new 3 issues mimi series Star Trek: ROMULANS - SCHISM :

• This week I started this, the third and "final" chapter of my Romulans stuff for IDW. This tells the tale of how the Romulans and the Klingons stopped being "pals" some time before the first TREK movie.

Mr. Byrne also posted that for the Romulans omnibus he is going to do an adaptation of the TOS eppisode "Balance of terror". Since I already have some of the Romulans issues and planning on getting this new mini series too, I'm not going to buy the omnibus.

Eureka news from Boom! studio

In the recent ECCC it was announced that BOOM! Studios will also be producing a book based on the Sci Fi show “Eureka.” The book, “Eureka 1.5,” will focus on stories that occur between the first and second seasons. The writing of the book will be done by Jonathan Davis.

I'm confused here. I thought that the current Eureka comics are the 1.5 season. Maybe they are talking about a collection of these comic issues.

Doctor Who news from IDW

IDW will continue to publish Doctor Who oneshots along side Tony Lee's (WOOHOO!!!) Doctor Who ongoing series that should be announced in the July solicitations (fingers crossed). The 1st one will be Doctor Who: Room with a Deja View written by Rich Johnston.

Buffy news from Dark Horse

Dark Horse is continuing with the “Season 8” run of “Buffy.” The season is scheduled to last for a total of 40 issues and “Season 9” is currently being planned.

Spock: Reflections from IDW

In the last couple of months Chris Ryall kept hinting about a new Star Trek series that would start in July. According to IDW's former editor Harris, the series will be called Spock: Reflections, and will see David Messina return to his regular writing partners Scott and David Tipton (thanks god that it's not bloody Tichman). The story will apparently be set in the new timeline created by the new movie.

IDW's Star Trek plans for the beginning of 2009

From an interview with Andy Schmidt:

• I've got three major launch points lined up. The first is in January with the premiere of the very-closely-tied-to-the-movie prequel Star Trek: Countdown. The story for this comes right from the screen writers of the movie and leads up to the opening of the film. There's a LOT of dramatic and action-packed backstory that couldn't make it into the movie but is perfect for a comic book—so don't miss it! It's your first chance to meet the new villain for the movie and get some MAJOR hints as to what the movie is about!
• Then in March we're launching a couple of awesome Original Series projects. Crew is by John Byrne and explores a very important bit of business prior to Kirk's taking control of the Enterprise.
• Mission's End is by Ty Templeton and Stephen Molnar and it tells the story of the final mission of the original five-year mission, and you know what? THE STATUS QUO CHANGES. That's right, you'll see friendships suffer and crumble as well as really great action. This book is going to lead up to some really big changes for the Original Series franchise.
• In April, we're publishing the early anticipated and long-awaited Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan movie adaptation. I'm adapting the screenplay myself and artist Chee who I wrote a mini-series for last year is doing the art. He's an amazing talent! And we've got Chris Ryall editing it.
• We're doing it in three chapters and the movie doesn't naturally break into thirds. So the first chapter is about the crew getting ready and Kirk getting honest with himself until he has to take over the ship.The second chapter focuses more personally on the revenge story and the life/death themes of the film. It ends after Kirk has been kicked around by Khan and we get just the faintest glimmer of hope that they might make it out alive.And the third chapter, of course, rises up to the climax of the film and resolves the conflict. It's great stuff and it's an honor to be doing the adaptation.

• In the spring, we're doing two Omnibus editions of older STAR TREK comics. Both will collect the Marvel comics runs. The first'll be issues 4-18 of their original series (issues 1-3 were the movie adaptation and are being collected in their own Omnibus later, complete with an all-new STAR TREK II adaptation we're doing. KHAN was the only movie never adapted to comics for some reason, which is even odder since everyone considers it the best TREK movie. We're finally gonna rectify that next summer). The second edition will collect the entirety of their EARLY VOYAGES series.

Answering my question about the 2nd movie adaption Chris Ryall said:

• It's being released as a 3-part biweekly miniseries first (in June/July '09), and then will be collected in a book that features all the movie comics in one, yeah. That one's slated for next winter, I believe.

Bluewater productions publisher on Tek War comics

From Jazma online:

• In the TEK WAR comic, the character of Walter Bascom will be portrayed by Mr. Shatner’s likeness. Walter is the head of the Cosmos Detective Agency, and he will be a recurring character. The storyline will loosely follow the original story set out in the original novel: a police officer wrongly convicted of a crime is suddenly released from prison in order to find an enigmatic scientist involved in the drug trade. He does this on behalf of a mysterious benefactor. This will be a classic noir detective story set in the near future. This complete story arc will take place over the first six issues of the project. However, within the pages will be elements that will serve as a key plot points for tale continuation for future volumes. The idea is to create a universe in such a way much like that of the programs. Heroes and Lost: creating compelling detail that carry over from volume to volume as major themes and plot points are peeled back like an onion. (ongoing series).

There are going to be more projects in the "William Shatner presents" line but I'm interested only in the Tek War comics after reading the books.

New Terminator comics from Dark Horse

According to Comics Continuum on 2009 Dark Horse will publish new Terminator comics. This makes it the 3rd Terminator in a row after Dynamite's and IDW's own Terminator series.

Dresden Files: Storm Front comics news

I've been MIA from here for a while not because I'm not interested in comics anymore but due to loads of work, working on other internet projects and just not being in the mood. Hopefully I'm back and all thanks to news about the upcoming Dresden Files: Storm Front comics. This is the Hrry Dresden book I read and immidiatley fell in love with the character of Harry Dresden. Here are the news from CBR:

• Dabel Brothers Publishing announced today that Mark Powers and Ardian Syaf will be the creative team adapting Jim Butcher's Storm Front to comics.
• Storm Front is Butcher's very first Dresden Files novel, and follows Harry through the investigation of a double murder committed by the use of black magic.
• The first issue of Storm Front ships October 2008.

So far I read only the 1st issue of Welcome to the Jungle and the art was magnificent. So I'm so looking forward to the comics version of Storm Front witht he same artist.

Writer Brian Lynch on Spike: After the fall

The new Spike: After the Fall mini series is supposed to debute next month from IDW. Here is what writer Brian Lynch had to say:

• In IDW's Angel: After the Fall, all of the characters who survived the melee that concluded Joss Whedon's TV series have had to find their way in a Los Angeles cast into hell. As befit his character, the vampire Spike seemed to have it all at the start -- he was set up in a certain Beverly Hills mansion, surrounded by a cadre of female warriors and Illyria, too. But it wasn't always so easy for him.
• Spike: After the Fall tells the tale of what happened in the intervening months since that alleyway cataclsym. Along for the ride in this series are Illyria, who has a tendency to revert back to Fred at inopportune times, as well as Angel's Dragon, and a new cast of characters as well. Most importantly, the series introduces a character who will come to be see as Spike¹s arch-nemesis. Even more than Angel.

Highlander comics news

From Comics continuum:

• Brandon Jerwa is returning to Highlander for an oversized two-parter early next year.
  Barrucci is targeting October 2009 for an ongoing Highlander.

There is also some mentioning a Blackbeard comics. I'm not holding my breath whne it comes to Dynamite announcements. Their track record is bad.

Updated 2.6.08 - According to an interview with writer Brandon Jarwa the new Highlander mini series will tell the history of the Krugen prior to the 1st Highlander movie. I'm not very excited because I prefer Duncan.

Star Trek: Alien Spotlight II news

Andrew Harris posted this advert to the new Align Spotlight comics. It will feature the following 5 races: Klingons, Betazoids, Ferengi, Tholians & the Q. Mr, Harri also added that:

• There'll actually be a sixth book in the series, but IDW is keeping it a surprise for now... .

Star Trek comics news

John Byrne has announced the title of his forthcoming Romulan miniseries sequel to his Romulan issue in the first Alien Spotlight series. The series is "Star Trek Romulans: The Hollow Crown" and starts in September. Mr. Byrne also hinted that there will be more Romulans mini series.

• Though “Temple of Doom” was the second film in the Indy film franchise, the film was set in 1935, a year before the events of the inaugural “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” Illustrated by Steve Scott with covers by Tony Harris, “Tomb of the Gods” is set sometime in between those two films. “It's an interesting time in Indy's development,” Rob Williams told CBR News. “One of the things we talked about from the offset is the dichotomy in Indy's character between ‘Temple’ - where his mantra is ‘Fortune And Glory’ - and ‘Raiders,’ where it's ‘That Belongs In A Museum.’”
• In a pivotal scene in “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” Indy’s rival, Belloq, along with a caravan of Nazis, transports the Ark of the Covenant through a desert pass before our titular hero levels a bazooka at their cargo and threatens to blow it to kingdom come. But Belloq calls Indy’s bluff, knowing Jones’ intellectual curiosity would not allow him to lose the secrets of the Ark to to history.
  “In ‘Tomb of the Gods,’ Indy’s not yet at the point in his life where he'll lower the bazooka and let Belloq have the Ark,” Williams said. “The younger, more driven Indy wouldn't do that.” Williams believes it is Indy’s newfound humility that saves his life at the end of “Raiders,” when he chooses to close his eyes rather than gaze upon the contents of the Ark. “Our story is another part of Indy's development on the way to ‘Raiders.’”
• “We wanted to make the stakes huge, so it's something that could put the entire human race in peril, along with Indy's soul,” Williams said. “There's a MacGuffin - something that could mean that everything Indy has studied all these years is a lie - a chase across the globe, and, eventually, a major revelation. You'll have to read the series to see just what Indy's looking for. But it's something that goes to the very heart of who Indy is.”
• Parts of the story are based on actual events. “There's a factual basis behind our inciting incident - an occurrence that did actually happen, and the evidence for it can still be seen today. But we're also adding in some aspects that are an homage to the writings of a certain author.”
• At least one member of Indy’s supporting cast features prominently in “Tomb of the Gods” -- Marcus Brody, Jones’ colleague and occasional benefactor. In the films, Brody was played by Denholm Elliott, and Williams was brimming over with praise for the accomplished actor. “Denholm Elliott is superb in ‘Raiders’ and ‘Last Crusade.’ He's probably the best thing in ‘Last Crusade,’ actually. So, he's too good a character not to have along for the ride.” Whether or not fans can expect to see any other familiar faces from the Indy films remains to be seen.arts of the story are based on actual events. “There's a factual basis behind our inciting incident - an occurrence that did actually happen, and the evidence for it can still be seen today. • For “Tomb of the Gods,” Williams made the conscious decision to introduce a number of expanded universe characters into the mix, if for no other reason than to have a supporting cast that he could put in real peril. “Even if you know Indy's going to make it out okay, you don't know if they will,” Williams said. “Also, recurring expanded universe characters help us give this run a distinct personality of its own.”
• The series once again pits Henry Jones, Jr. against Hitler’s Third Reich, but Williams told CBR News that Indy’s adversaries in “Tomb of the Gods” aren’t just any Nazis. Indy crosses paths with the Ahnenerbe, a real-life section of the SS started by Heinrich Himmler in 1935. “The Ahnenerbe was the ancestral heritage branch of the SS, dedicated to archaeology surrounding the superiority of the Aryan race and the occult.,” Williams said. “This is, to all extent and purposes, Hitler's private team of Ghostbusters. I felt that was a pretty cool angle. So it's not just Indy verses your typical Nazi goons, it's Indy up against his counterparts from within the Nazi party.”

An Indiana Jones expanded univers is a great idea. Dark Horse's Star Wars expanded universe is great and so is Pocket Books Star Trek expanded universe. Can't wait to start reading !!!
