Writer Brian Lynch on Spike: After the fall

The new Spike: After the Fall mini series is supposed to debute next month from IDW. Here is what writer Brian Lynch had to say:

• In IDW's Angel: After the Fall, all of the characters who survived the melee that concluded Joss Whedon's TV series have had to find their way in a Los Angeles cast into hell. As befit his character, the vampire Spike seemed to have it all at the start -- he was set up in a certain Beverly Hills mansion, surrounded by a cadre of female warriors and Illyria, too. But it wasn't always so easy for him.
• Spike: After the Fall tells the tale of what happened in the intervening months since that alleyway cataclsym. Along for the ride in this series are Illyria, who has a tendency to revert back to Fred at inopportune times, as well as Angel's Dragon, and a new cast of characters as well. Most importantly, the series introduces a character who will come to be see as Spike¹s arch-nemesis. Even more than Angel.

Spike: After the Fall news

From writer Brian Lynch blog:

• Even though this is my and Franco's third SPIKE series, there are no appearances from Beck or Betta George or Tok or even Trots the Evil Horse Puppet. George premiered in SPIKE:ASYLUM # 2 and then came back to life in SPIKE:SHADOW PUPPETS #2, so it would have been nice to have him appear, however briefly, in SPIKE:ATF # 2, but the story is king and the fish had no place.I miss Beck and Tok and Mosaic. I think I'll visit them again, AATF.

Cool, there are going to be more Spike comics.

• Illyria is a full-on supporting character in this, and we deal with her current situation. However, if you don't SPIKE:ATF you'll still understand what's going on with her in ANGEL:ATF. And vice versa, actually. Illyria isn't the only character from the ANGEL TV show that makes an appearance.
• Gunn is not the villain in SPIKE:ATF. The villain in SPIKE:ATF would make Gunn wet his pants.

Sounds good !!! Also I;m crossing my fingers that the older Spike comics will be re-printed by IDW in the smaller & cheaper version, or they'll appear in a bargain bin somewhere :)

• Angel: After the Fall #6-8 begin a special three-part "stories-within-the-story" adventure, "First Night." The issues feature multiple stories featuring Angel's large cast of characters, as readers get a chance to see just how the apocalyptic fight in the alley that concluded the television series affected each character.
  Angel: After the Fall #6 looks at Spike (featuring art by David Messina), Connor (art by Stephen Mooney) and Lorne (art by John Byrne).
  All the stories in this issue and the next two will also feature a framing sequence featuring Betta George, illustrated by Tim Kane.
  Angel: After the Fall #7, featuring a wraparound cover by Rebecca A. Wrigley and a variant cover by Mike Oeming, looks at Wesley (art by Nick Runge) and also features the surprise return of a long-absent character from the Whedonverse. The concluding "First Night" tales in #8 feature Gwen (art by Fabio Mantovani), the effect on L.A. being thrust into hell on the city's denizens (art by Kevyn Schmidt) and a heart-wrenching tale of Gunn's fate (art by Mirco Pierfederici).
  Angel: After the Fall #9 picks up with the cliffhanger at the end of issue 5, and features an all-new art team, Nick Runge and Art Lyon. Angel: After the Fall #8 and #9 will ship bi-weekly in June.
  Spinning out of the events of his story in First Night, Spike will be getting his own mini-series debuting in July, Spike: After the Fall, written and illustrated by the team that Joss Whedon hand-picked to handle Angel: After the Fall, Brian Lynch and Franco Urru. The four-part serie takes Spike from the events in "First Night" and explores his changing relationship with Illyria in the new city, and answers many questions, foremost of which has been "How did Spike end up taking over a certain mansion in Westwood?"

New Spike comics

• It’s a good time in comics for fans of Joss Whedon’s Buffy-verse.
• Dark Horse is telling of Buffy, the Vampire Slayer’s adventures following the conclusion of her television series and IDW’s Angel: After the Fall is officially continuing that character’s story post Season Five of the television series’ finale.
• But what about Spike? Does his official (read: approved by Whedon) story get explored and told anywhere?
• While the character has appeared in Angel: After the Fall, there were certainly some questions left unanswered. Those burning questions will be answered in Spike: After the Fall miniseries launching in July from IDW, by Brian Lynch and Franco Urru. As for the continuity…hang on…
• Angel: After the Fall #6, #7 and #8 tell stories of how the cast of characters was affected by the fight in the alley that ended the series. Issue #6 will feature Spike, Connor and Lorne; issue #7 will feature Wesley and a surprise return of a character from the Whedonverse; while issue #8 will feature Gwen, the effect of LA being thrust into hell on the city’s residents, and the fate of Gunn. Sounds great. Loved the Angel & Spike comics I read so far. Definitly going to add Spike: After the fall to my reading list.

Angel & Spike comics

For some reason I didn't like the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" show but loved "Angel".

Angel: After the Fall #1-2

This is Angel's official 6th season. The show's creator moved it to the comics media after the TV show was canceled at the end of the 5th season. Haven't read it yet cos the story arc hasn't ended. But from looking at the art it looks different then other Angel comics I own. It has lots of monsters like dragons and such.

Angel: Autumnal

A collection of old Angel comics from Dark Horse. Was very happy to find it couple of weeks ago at a comics con for only 40 Shekels. The stories happen during the 1st season. Already read the 1st story and enjoyed it. Hopefully during the weekend I'll manage to read the rest.

Angel: Old Friends #1-5

Couple of months ago, IDW released a 2nd printing of the TP. I got the 5 issues from Forbidden Planet's back issues site for less then half the price including shipping. :)

!st printing found at Comikaza's bargain bin just because the cover was unglued. That's what double sided masking tape is for :) Enjoyed very much reading it.

The 1st Angel / Spike comics I read. Loved the story and the graphics.
