Markosia's solicitations for April

Markosia has released it's April solicitations which includes 1 new item for me:

This concludes the list of new items in the April solicitations and brings the number of items I'm waiting for to a new high of 75 :)

Star Trek: Alien Spotlight - Orions

Loved the story and the art. This issue is different from the other Alien Spotlight issues that were released so far, because unlike the others it's just a story involving an Orion woman. Other Spotlight issues tried to give the reader a glimpse into the alien race's culture. The Vulcans issue aimed at showing how cold and emtionless the Vulcans are, and the Andorians issue dealth with the dilema whether they should be part of the Federation or return to being conqurors like they used to be. This Orions story is about an Orion woman trying to get revenge on a Tellerite that murdered her sister. There is no attempt at showing some unique side of the Orions' culture. Seeking revenge is not special to Orions.

Star Trek: Alien Spotlight - The Andorians

Another of the Alien Spotlight stories. This one is about the Andorians who usually has very limited part in the Star Trek universe. Excpet for one Andorian ensign whose name I can't recall at the moment, who is a main character in the DS9 novels, Andorians are hardly ever mentioned.
Loved the story, but not the art. The faces were not consistent. If not for the fact that Sharad, the Andorian Starfleet comander, was in uniform all the time, it would have been hard to distingish between all the blue faces.

IDW Star Trek & Doctor Who news

A very good Star Trek news from Andrew Steven Harris - IDW editor:

  • Although we've made no definitive plans about this, it seems likely that Year Four will be composed of several different miniseries--probably four total, with issues numbering six/five/six/five. That would make 22 issues total, just like 22 episodes of what would have been Year Four of the TV series. When we've reached 22 issues total of Year Four, we will almost certainly want to transition into Year Five, and may very well likely follow the same miniseries format as Year Four. So, barring unforeseen circumstances, TOS will have a mainstream "anchor" title for quite some time, though there will likely be short breaks between the different miniseries so that the writers & artists can regroup.

Chris Ryall posted on his blog a "better late then never" Doctor who news:

  • Issue 1 ran late and is now launching in mid-late February, but 2 is done, 3 is being colored, and 4 is in the works now, so we're all finally ready to roll.

The Star Trek news are very exciting. I just hope that David Tichman is not among the writers. As for the Doctor Who news, it looks like I'll have to wait till the end of February for the 1st issue.

Star Trek: Alien Spotlight - Vulcans

From Star Wars to Star Trek. While I'm a newbie in the Star Wars universe, the Star Trek universe is like a home away from home to me.
The aim of this stand alone issue is to portray the Vulcans as emotionless as possible. The problem is that the writer made Spock too cold. I don't believe that even in the pre-Kirk era, Spock was able to be that cruel to his shipmates. The writer could have made him cold and emotionless when he was standing against the badies and still have him be more emphatic to his shipmates when the badies were not around.
Except for this, the story and art were good and enjoyable. It is good to have a new pre-Kirk story.

Review of Star Wars: Legacy #9-10 - Trust Issues

Trust Issues is the 2nd story I've read from Star Wars: Legacy and I love it. The far into the future expanded universe story is true to the Star Wars theme and is a reasonable out come of events from where the Return of the Jedi movie left them. Each of Legacy's stories reveals a mix of new info about where things stand at that point and characters backgrounds. At the end of this story we learn who is Cade Skywalker's mother. During the stories the Imperial characters wonder why the Sith leader wants Cade to be captured alive. To me it seems that since Cade's ancestor was Darth Vader, the current Sith Darth leader wants to turn Cade into a new Darth Vader.
Anyhow, I'm beginning to very much enjoy the Star Wars expanded universe and in the future may start reading the books too. For now I'm seteling for the comics.

Restlesness

Being restless is not healthy to my bank account. When I'm restless, I go shop browsing and buy things. That's what happned today. The result is:

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic #21

Review of Star Wars: Legacy #0 1/2 - Your Guide to the Legacy era of Star Wars

This guide is confusing. On the one hand, it has a lot of background info about the various characters. On the other hand it summarize the story till the latest issue hence having lots of spoiler that new readers probably will not want to read in issue #0.

IDW's solicitaions for April

Review of Star Wars: Legacy #8 - Allies

This is the 1st Star Wars: Legacy issue that I read. Although it's not the 1st issue, I've decided to start with it because it's a 1 issue story. After reading it I'm very happy that I "gave in" and added Star Wars to my reading list. The art is amazing and very detailed. The characters are well drawn. And the story is well rounded, and very eventful. Next I'm going to read the hand book that arrived in the last shipment to get the background story.

Review of Angel: Autumnal

Finished reading this book that collects Angel #12-14 from Dark Horse. The 2 stories in this book are good and same goes for the art. The 2nd story is only 1 issue long but it doesn't affect the story telling. Christopher Golden & Tom Sniegoski - the writers, did a very good job fitting it into the limited space of only 1 issue, unlike David Tishman from IDW's Star Trek.
I enjoyed this book as much as I enjoyed IDW's Angel: The Curse and looking forward to reading the other Dark Horse Angel graphic novel I have.
Talking about IDW's Angel - I still don't understand why the new Angel: After the Fall series have to be so riddled with monsters. Being almost monsters free didn't take anything from the 3 Angel stories I read so far.

Jan - 08 1st shipment

The 1st shipment of 2008 arrived on time and had 6 new issues:

Angel: After the Fall #3

Doctor Who Classics #2

The Iliad #2

Star Trek TNG: Intelligence Gathering #1

Star Wars: Legacy hand book & #18

I love bargains

There is this shop in Dizengoff Center that has a box full of back issues, including Star Wars issues. Over a year they kept insisting on full cover price. On Tuesday I was in the neighborhood and decided to visit them and discovered that finally they wizened up and now are asking for only IS5 per issue which is only 1/3 of the original price. So I bought 19 issues and would have bought more if there were any. Some back issues are still missing from having a full set.

BTW - today the blogger refused to upload images straight from the computer, so instead I've uploaded them to photobucket and used the option to upload them from there to the blog. It worked and was much faster then the direct upload.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
#10-15, 18-20

Star Wars: Legacy #6-10, 12-15

Misc. comics

Artemis Fowl

Constantine

Spiderman

Superman

X-Men

X-Files

Terminator comics

The Terminator movies are among my favorites in spite of Arnold Schwarzenegger's heavy German accent and bad acting. Love the concept of men creates machines ... machines wipe out men, which is similar to Battlestar Galactica's concept. Was very happy when not long after I got into the comics world, Dynamite started publishing Terminator comics.

Terminator 2: Infinity #1-5
This is the 1st story arc. In movie #2-3 Schwarzenegger's Terminator managed to destroy the new "indestructible" Terminator models. The new Infinity model is really indestructible due to it's temporal abilities. I'm very curious to read how John Connor will deal with it in the future and what will happen during the Painkiller Jane crossover.

Terminator 3 official comic book #2, 4 & 6
An adaptation of the 3rd movie. I'm still looking for issues # 1, 3 & 5 to complete the set and read it.
